The food industry is the number one employer in Vernon.[i] According to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the largest number of sexual harassment claims come from the restaurant and hospitality industry. The claims came from employees at restaurants, hotels, and coffee shops. From 2005 to 2015, the restaurant and hospitality industry accounted for 14.23% of all sexual harassment claims filed with the EEOC.

The law requires employers to provide at least two hours of sexual harassment prevention training and education to all supervisory employees and at least one hour of such training to all non-supervisory employees. Training and education must be provided once every two years thereafter.
